Preparing Your Files for Print

To insure accuracy, we strongly recommend sending hard copies with your files. Our Mac-based Art Department can accept the PC versions of these programs. Since there may be font issues with files created on PCs, we recommend using programs that allow fonts to be converted to outlines.
SBPI supports the following programs:
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Photoshop
When possible, please send your layered files. A minimum resolution of 100dpi @100% is required for 65 line screen output. For digital output, 360x360 output requires 90dpi; 720x720 output requires 180dpi; 1440x1440 output requires 360dpi. Files may be saved as either PSD, TIFF, EPS, or PDF.
Increasing resolution or file size in Photoshop will not increase file quality. Remember to add bleed (at least .125”) to your Photoshop files if the image is to be printed to the edge of the sheet. If the piece being printed is 2-sided, please add at least .25” for bleed.
Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign
Convert all types to outlines. Make sure your copy has been proofread before conversion. Objects should be linked, not embedded, and the linked objects sent with your files. Illustrator files may be saved to pdf if the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" box has been checked.
If images are placed from Photoshop into either Illustrator or InDesign please apply the same rules as noted in the Photoshop section above.
Color
It is preferred to receive a CMYK file for a typical color print piece. When Pantone/PMS colors are involved, please go with the official color names that have assigned numbers. Assigning company names to a color create problems and potential inaccuracies in our rip/output.
When color matching is critical, a tangible sample should be sent to SBPI. Having a paint swatch or fabric sample can help us make needed adjustments in-house.
